Licenses Creative Commons aim to help creators - called licensors - to preserve your copyright and other rights, while allowing others to copy, distribute and / or do some of their work uses can then choose to add authorizations additional when deciding how they intend that their work might be used.
The process is simple to choose the type of license you want to use, being divided into two steps:
- I want to allow commercial use?
- I want to allow derivative works? - In this case, if allowed, may require that the promotion be shared under the same license terms, called ShareAlike which is one of the mechanisms that collaborates with the common set of digital assets to grow over time. This method is common to many free software and open source.
It is important to remember that the licenses Creative Commons follow the same international registration standards to be valid and simple and complete structure to guarantee the use within the choices made up for that licenses are made up of three layers.
THE THREE LAYERS OF THE CREATIVE COMMONS
So many public licenses, as the related right to have a unique and innovative design in "three layers" aimed at understanding different readings and approaches. Let's understand?
The first layer is a traditional legal instrument aimed at the legal interpretation. This layer is called, legal text.
The second layer to simplify the interpretation, considering that most breeders are not lawyers. Here are licenses that can be read by all or "readable by humans" or Summary Explanatory which is a useful reference for licensors as to the graduates, summarizes and expresses some of the terms and important conditions, although the summary is not in itself even a license and its contents do not form part of the legal text itself.
For the Internet to easily identify when a work is available under a Creative Commons license, we have the third layer. A digital version ( "machine - readable" ) license - a summary of rights and obligations, expressed in a format that the software applications, search engines and other technology can understand. To achieve this, we developed a standardized way to describe the licenses that can be read and understood by software, called Rights Expression Language, DC (CC REL).
Together, these three layers of each license ensure that the rights set is not just a legal concept. It's something that the creators can understand that users can understand and that even the Internet itself can understand.
